Traveling can get costly, however there are several ways to budget. Kenya in general enjoys a relatively low cost of living compared to other countries, hence daily necessities should be affordable if you use the right avenues.

Here are 5 ways to cut costs while traveling throughout Kenya:

1. Travel in a group.

This usually helps cut costs especially where there are group packages involved. You’ll probably pay far less from the accommodation to the transport and activities.

2. Use cheaper modes of transportation.

There are several methods of transportation (depending on where you are). Instead of taking a plane, you should take a train, cab (which have become cheaper with the introduction of Uber and Taxify).  You can also use matatus or tuk tuks.

3. Don’t travel at peak season.

Everything is just more expensive.

5. Have different accommodation options.

As great as a nice luxury lodge sounds, or a hotel, if you’re looking to cut costs, you should try cheaper options. For example getting an Airbnb or staying at a guest house or even better, a friends place.
